Web design help/lessons needed

Anyone know of someone to educate me on a little web design - just enough to maintain my own site??? But please remember I learnt to count on an abacus!
My nephew (in Oz.) constructed the site for me (at a very low charge) but now I'm finding I need to make changes and he seems to have lost some enthusiam for it. It would be better if I could Do-It-Myself!
