I was going to leave it till later, but i'm going to watch last 2 episodes of LOST, so here it is
In this faraway dark place lies the source of our local knowledge
Africa is known as "the dark continent" and in there is a country called CHAD.
from there the sun rises
the sun rises in the east, so east of Chad
on two new lines, one white and one blue
new is crossword teminology for an anagram of (usually) the next word, so anagram of LINES is NILES so you now have "The White Nile" and "The Blue Nile"
these merge into a different line
again, "different" means an anagram of the next word, LINE, so again you have NILE. The White and Blue Niles merge into a single river just called "The Nile"
it is at this point the General drinks his gin
Where the two niles merge is a city were General Gordon (Gordons Gin) lost his life defending against the Muslem people,
That city is KHARTOUM
