Can anyone help?

My name is Andrew Stokes and I am 22 years old. I have been doing a plumbing apprenticeship since July 2006 and only have a few months left to finish. Six months ago the company I was working for (Field Associates contractors of Mansfield) went into administration and made all their employee's redundant. Therefore this put my apprenticeship in the balance. I have since been claiming Job Seekers Allowance as I am struggling to find someone to take me on which I can continue my apprenticeship with. As my company ceased trading and I could not find alternative employment I had/have an issue with the funding of my course. I have sorted out the funding for my NVQ side through college but they can not help me with the cost to take my Gas ACS assesments. I should hopefully finish my course in late April and I know that getting my City and Guilds NVQ Level 3 aswell as my gas qualifications I would have no problem in finding employment. This is where I am asking if you know of any help I can get towards paying for my gas assesments as they amount to over £1500 and as I am unemployed this is a large amount of money which I do no have. I have been told by college that they have had people before who have found funding for these assesments but they do not know exactly where from and I have tried everywhere and just keep getting passed around and seem like I am getting nowhere. All I want to do is get a trade and my qualifications so that I can work it just seems that whenever I try anything I don't fit into certain categories as I actually want work and do not have children. I have sent numerous emails and I have posted over 200 letters to plumbing companies all over the UK but the majority of them require me to be gas qualified. Please could you let me know if you know of any help I could get as this would be very much appreciated.

Have you tried speaking to Pauline Campbell from the Family Employment Initiative, at the Town Hall? Pauline can sometimes find funding for people to help them into employment and although I'm not sure what the criteria is, it might be worth speaking to her. Phone the Town Hall to find out when Pauline is in. 845858

Other than that, there may be burseries or charitable trusts you could apply to. I'm not sure what the Eastwoods Foundation fund but they have a website, I can't remember the address though.

I think they fund other things though, not just historical buildings. Maybe they don't any more but I remember applying to them for funding when I started Infotech.

You're very welcome. I'm not saying she will be able to answer all your questions, but I'm sure she'll be able to go some way to helping. She's at Warsop Town Hall every Wednesday and Friday, but you need to phone her first to make an appointment.

If anyone else knows of any help Andrew might get, please let him know.
