Monument to a Horse

Postby Garth Throstle » Sun Mar 20, 2011 7:14 pm

Does anybody know the story behind the Monument to a Horse that is on the edge of the woodland to the north of the A616 between the turn to Edwinstowe and Ollerton roundabout? I've found this description but it does say anything about the horse!

Monument to a horse
11.8.61 (EDWINSTOWE WORKSOP ROAD NGR: SK6393168252)
Grade II listed
Monument, also serving as milestone. 1834. Square plinth of 2 steps carrying square pedestal with stepped base and moulded top. Illegible signature on south face. Above, Doric column with cove moulded base and capital and ball finial. South side has recess formerly containing bronze plate with mileage to London.
