 I wouldn't go so far as to say I'm any kind of force. Not sure I'd like to posess such powers either.

As for dates -
the old cinema has a thread on here and we almost nailed a date.
Top Cat fire - can't remember but will make enquiries. Our friendly fire fighter may be able to find out.
Dog and Rabbit, my sis knows when her in-laws left but Titch took over after that. I'm sure Nigel Griffin will know but he's not on the forum! Sorry, can't help! :(

The sinister force i was referring to, not so far away, was M.D.C & N.C.C.. who took over control from Warsop Urban District Council.

Do you need a hug, Carol :veryupset:

Yes, I needed that hug, thanks langy! :D See that's made me very happy!

Last night I found a photo that shows the Dog and Rabbit was still open in 1990. I'm working on putting some old pics on here but as we're undergoing a server change I'm reluctant to do anything until we've got that sorted.

I think the Top Cat/Scrooges fire was around the turn of the century and I know it was in the summer and started around six in the morning and burned for most of the day, but I can't remember what year. I can't find the photos I had of it. Will have to check my old computer.

Back to the Dog and Rabbit topic.

Here's a few old pics of the Dog and Rabbit, the most recent one is dated 1990, the oldest 1900. http://www.warsopweb.co.uk/galleries/slidedograbbit

Ha, benches outside what a laugh. It's not exactly level ground is it. And that's before the smoking ban came in!

Thanks for your help and also thanks to Caz for posting the pictures.

I spoke to Edwin Tattersall this morning. He used to work in that building after the Dog & Rabbit closed down.

He has spoken to Nigel Griffin, who bought the building in mid 1997 and opened it up as an insurance business in 1998. He believes the Dog & Rabbit closed sometime in 1996.

Some other interesting information that he told me, was that the building as it is now was built in 1905 and before that George Henry Tattersall ran the pub in 1870 and when he died his wife and son ran it till around 1900.

There is also a photograph of his great, great grandmother outside the old stone building in the opticians on Sherwood Street.

That last paragraph should have said, "There is a photograph of Edwin Tattersalls great, great grandmother standing outside the stone building in the opticians on Sherwood Street."

I've split some of the posts from here and started topics for them. Top cat fire and Strand cinema. We'll try and keep this one to Dog and Rabbit to avoid confusion.
