Digger, I remember there being one across from the old fire station but I thought the shop that is now the fabric shop used to be Plants the cobblers. Or was that the one that is now a fruit and veg shop? I remember Plant's daughter always used to hang out of the upstairs window looking down at us and we were a bit scared of her.

I think Plants was the fruit and veg shop, I remember the daughter hanging out the window as well she used to be in her underwear. There were the toilets there as well.

The shop on the other side of then Sandy Lane as it was called was Longsons, I think, well here is another from the mem/ bank on Sherwood St again before Whettons Garage was built it was a vacant block of land however at the very top in the early fifties there was was a factory do you older Warsopians know what the factory produced and what famous i.d of that time owned it.

I'm not that old honest but did the factory produce continental meat products? And was it owned by a man called Drobney? Or was this much later, my dad used to work there and delivered the products to delicatessens all over the area.

And Drobny was a famous tennis star of the 30's or so? Something about appearing at Wimbledon?

You are quite right about that factory before continental meats it was a crisp factory and indeed his full name is Jaraslob Drobneyand he was a good tennis player.
I have just read the Chad headlines that an ex mansfield born millionaire who lives in Oz is perhaps making a bid for Mansfield Town Football Club ! its not me!
