I forgot to mention that Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall are visiting Welbeck on Tuesday this week (tomorrow).

Hi
Did you manage to get a grid ref of the tunnel entrance.

I think it is the one at SK 55418 74384, I will check it when I get time (hopefully this week).

Cheers
The old tunnel layout can be seen on the old OS maps of the area from 1886ish. Thanks for the info. Got the rough area where to look by searching for the elephant house at Welbeck Abbey on this site http://www.old-maps.co.uk/maps.html

Hi
Are you planning a walk along the footpaths round the estate in the near future.

Never do walking, I have a car!

I lived on the estate at one time and most of the extended family did too. Generations of my family have worked on the estate over the years up to a few of my uncles and a cousin, although none of them work for Welbeck any longer.

We used to spend hours as kids wandering the estate as there was nothing else for us to do! Although I no longer live on the estate my grandparents are buried in the grounds of St. Winifred’s and I have family on the estate too so visit fairly regularly.

I could bore you with loads of stories about the estate but feel free to post any questions you may have and I will do my best to answer them for you, or try and find the answers for you.

Thanks for that Garth, looking through to find a suitable date. Pity no camera's allowed.
