LD&ECR Norwood Railway Crossing

Postby zhunter71 » Mon May 29, 2017 9:34 am

I know this is a long shot!......but i am currently researching the former crossing house on the LD&ECR's Beighton Branch, which has now closed, not to be confused with the current crossing that is till there 100 yds along the road over the Robin Hood Line. The building seems to have been known as The Gatehouse and Norwood Cottage

I am trying to find out who was the very last crossing attendant to have worked in the house, now I know the line closed on 9th Jan 1967, and i know BR sold the house in October 1967 to an Edith Howarth, so i am assuming for the time being that she was the last crossing attendant and chose to stay on in the property after closure and bought it from BR.

I know nothing else about Edith Howarth, age, birthdate, etc. I am hoping someone may recognise the name and maybe know what became of her so i can get in touch !

any help is greatly appreciated!!
