They probably don't know which houses have elderly people in them and leave it to chance. I suspect they knock at any door and if it gets answered by someone younger and more able, they make some excuse of having the wrong address or something. I'd say the majority of younger people work and wouldn't be at home during the day, or like Sharon they wouldn't bother answering the door, whereas elderly people are home, so chances are they'd find an easy target that way.

Yesterday after this happened my mum had someone else knock at the door. It was a smartly dressed man who said he'd seen the 'No Uninvited Callers' stickers on her window, but he wasn't selling anything. He was from the council and they'd got a pot of money to install loft insulation! My mum told him she'd recently had hers re-done and the man went away. Today she phoned me saying someone called her about PI (obviously ppi), she told them they should talk to her daughter about it and they hung up. My mum is on the TPL and still gets these calls, but then so does everyone!

It's about time the government did something about nuisance callers and door knockers! It's not just that they're a nuisance, they are able to con our elderly people into a lot of things and often frighten them into thinking they've missed something and need help. Elderly people are so trusting as they never had this kind of fraud and nuisance until recent years.

I know we've ranted about this before on here and I've had to deal with similar things before! Time to lobby our MP I think!! I'll be elderly one day and I hope I'll be a little better protected by legislation.

I'm really sorry to hear this is still happening. My mum was targeted in the last spate of incidents and it is very worrying that elderly people can be duped like this and the perpetrators get away with it.

I would urge anyone who may have information, or may have had a near miss to contact the CID officer who is dealing with this. The more information they can get, the more likely they are to catch them and put a stop to it! Contact Det Sgt Rick Ellis at Mansfield CID on the non-emergency number 101 ext 3464.

Please make all your elderly neighbours aware of this to prevent any more victims falling prey.

I think these scum know what houses to target, maybe word gets around.
I'm no expert, so please correct me if I'm wrong.

Just been told by a lady on Hammerwater Drive that they tried it on with her on the same day at about 1.30pm.
The scum bag was a young woman, about 20 and had her hair tied up. She was told to go away and as she walked round the corner onto Sookholme Drive she let her hair down and got into a grey car which was driven by another young woman.
Unfortunately no number plate.

Hammerwater Drive again!! They robbed an elderly lady there in July on the same day they were at my mum's. They didn't get anyone for the spate in July, although they made arrests, nobody was charged. On those occassions there were two women and a man, possibly another passenger in the car as well.
