Warsop Alert!!!

Postby Caz » Thu Oct 13, 2011 10:07 pm

The local police team now have an online alert service to allow locals to report any incidents or suspicious acts, no matter how insignificant they may seem, as it's very often the minor details that help police solve crimes and make arrests.

The new website also gives updates on incidents and once logged in you can track the number and progress of other incidents reported in your street.

I have made myself a member and set up a group on behalf of Warsop Web to cover the whole parish and I'd urge other people to join so that we can reduce crime and anti-social behaviour in Warsop. The more people who report incidents, no matter how small, the better picture we'll get of potential and actual crime, as well as helping to identify the trouble makers and crime hotspots.

Police teams are assigned to areas according to how many crimes are committed and how many reports they get in that area. If we don't report incidents, it looks like we don't have problems and we could lose some police. Many incidents go un-reported because people feel it's a waste of time, but this is an opportunity to report quickly and easily and have a permanent record of your reports.

Please note: The alert scheme is not a replacement for reporting crime as it's being committed, or for emergencies. The police will not respond to your postings, but they will read them and use any information you give as intelligence. The Alert Scheme is in addition to existing policing and is provided so the police can get a better picture of what's happening in the area. For example, your report of someone acting in a strange manner outside your house, may just be the last piece of jigsaw the police need to trace someone's moves.

I'm not sure, but I wouldn't think so M8tey. I think you can only view certain things if you're actually a member. There is a disclaimer on the site that says information isn't passed on. I think if the police want people to use it, they'd make sure it's only used for what they and us as residents can get out of it.

That's as I thought Moaner. I'm admin for the Warsop Web group and have to approve anyone who applies to be a member of that group. Anyone can set up a group for their own neighbourhood, I just thought it would be useful for us to keep an eye on what's happening in Warsop and making others aware of any problems.

With regard to insurance companies accessing the information, crime statistics are widely available on the internet for anyone to check on a particular area, so I'm thinking that this Alert scheme should actually benefit us for insurance purposes. If we can nip problems in the bud by keeping a quiet eye on things, we should be lower risk.

The cash withdrawal machine in Shrewood St is sprouting small paper shoots at the base, all the same size.....must be the fallout from arthritic fingers ?
