New Postal Scam

Postby Tomas Drouty » Mon Dec 06, 2010 6:48 pm

Can you circulate this around especially as Xmas is fast approaching - it has been confirmed by Royal Mail. The Trading Standards Office are making people aware of the following scam:

A card is posted through your door from a company called PDS (Parcel Delivery Service) suggesting that they were unable to deliver a parcel and that you need to contact them on 0906 6611911 (a Premium rate number).

DO NOT call this number, as this is a mail scam originating from Belize.

If you call the number and you start to hear a recorded message you will already have been billed £315 for the phone call.

If you do receive a card with these details, then please contact Royal Mail Fraud on 020 7239 6655.

For more information, see the Crime Stoppers website:

I have posted this just in case, but if you do click on the link it takes you to the crimestoppers website where it explains how the phone number is no longer in use... I wouldn't try calling it though just to check!

I thought that we discounted this as a hoax a week or so ago?

TD, that's a hoax. We had a thread on here about it a couple of weeks ago. It was a scam but got cleared up a few years ago.

It's started circulating again recently, but it has been confirmed as an old scam. These emails about scams are a bit like chain letters. They do their rounds then re-appear again a couple of years later and do the rounds again. When you've had them three times, you start to get suspicious! I can't find the thread now.

Well that's why I didn't see it then ... it was posted in the wrong place! I remember the scam about the hoax cashback and once I'd read that it had been qualified as a hoax I simply stopped looking at the topic ... not my fault somebody then posted about another scam on the same topic!

Tell you what though, it's much better to have duplicate posts, than none at all! Better to be safe eh?

On another forum I participate in one of the other menbers is always notifying us of viruses and scams. in all cases so far they have been false alarms. It's not their fault that they want to help their friends but in 99 % of cases the originater is trying to cllog up the web to our detriment. Blame the perpitraters.

If I had a pound for every time I received a duplicate scam warning, I'd be rich and some of them come round on an annual basis too! Hubby started to tell me about one that he'd got the other day and I finished it off for him. It was the first time he'd seen it and thought it was real, but I'd heard it a few years ago. At one time they were sending out these messages as phishing emails, they were monitoring the whereabouts of the messages and farming the e.mail addresses so they could sell them on as lists to spammers.

I'd have thought they can't do that these days with e.mail security, so why they carry on being sent I don't know.
