Project Paddington--Can you help?

Postby Westmorland » Mon Sep 21, 2015 12:07 pm

Project Paddington – What is it all about? Cathy Picken – the Children and Families Minister at Warsop Parish Church – has found a
great way to engage children and people of all ages with a way of showing compassion during the current refugee crisis. She was telling
Fr. Jonathan and the other church ministers at the local Churches Together Meeting in Warsop a couple of weeks ago. Project
Paddington has been developed by a group of Sheffield mums for children in response to the growing humanitarian crisis amongst
refugees and displaced people.
Project Paddington plans to send teddy bears to refugee children with notes and pictures from UK children, showing that we care. Using
a downloadable sponsor form, children can involve their wider family and community to sponsor their bear’s journey to their new home
and raise much-needed funds to support refugee children and their families. Through mobilising schools and groups across the UK to
become “Children helping Children” it is hoped that they can draw attention to the plight of those escaping conflict zones. They are
working in partnership with internationally recognised charity, Tearfund, in order to receive sponsorship money and other donations that
will be distributed throughout their existing networks in Syria, Jordan, Iraq and Europe.
Also, they are launching the “Bear Selfie” campaign, which will use social media platforms to encourage people of all ages to post a
photo of themselves with their teddy bear, nominate 3 friends to take part and make a donation to Tearfund, along with the hashtag
#Projectpaddington. A link to our YouTube clip, http://youtu.be/al8kI3Qt80Y, for use in assemblies.
