The Carrs

Postby Wizard » Thu Sep 03, 2015 9:12 am

I know that the Friends of the Carrs do the best they can to get things done on the Carrs, but I think that the standards of the Carrs have fallen dramatically over the years.
The long grass along the river banks looks an eyesore from the road side, and is enough to put anyone off wanting to have a walk around there.
If they did decide to pull into the car park near the dam to have a picnic, the rats would certainly make them pack up and move on to somewhere safer.
The "community orchard " in front of the Church is now all overgrown, and some of the trees have been snapped off by the local idiots, along with a seat from one side of the picnic bench that has been sited there.

I realise that some people like to encourage the wild life around the area, and I am one of those people, but I do not think we should interfere with the natural habitat of these creatures, who afterall, have survived and flourished without the need to make an eyesore for the public to view, by leaving overgrown grass everywhere.

If people want the Carrs to win some awards for beauty in the future, then get it back to how it was in its prime.
Get rid of the eyesore orchard, and get the grass cut around the riverbanks.
Trim the weeping willows around the dam so that you don't get whipped in the face as you walk along the path, and get the pest control chap to put extra rat poising down to eliminate the rats.
The other wildlife will take care of itself, just like it has done for the last hundred years or more.

I agree with you Wizard. I am all for saving wildlife but as you say, they have survived and they do adapt to change so I don't see the need for the view of the river to be obstructed. As it is now, it doesn't encourage people to look after it and it certainly doesn't inspire me to take a stroll along the river bank or to sit on the picnic benches.

Friends of the Carrs do bust a gut to get things done but sometimes it needs other people to support their cause, to stand beside them and to make a noise.

There is a massive campaign online at the moment. More information is on the Facebook page but if you wish to sign the petition it is available here:

I've signed it and I hope everyone else who cares about the Carrs signs it. It's asking MDC to fulfil their duty in the upkeep of the Carrs.

I've added a link to the petition on the Warsop Web homepage as well.

A full response from the Mayor of Mansfield regards issues raised by a Netherfield Ward Parish Councillor in connection with the Carrs has been received by that Councillor today

It would be nice if the councillor told us what the response was.

Who are these people who the Mayor claims have given positive feedback about what MDC have done? And what about the petition from people who are giving them negative feedback? Typical council response.

re rat poison, I shouldn`t think it`s selective, and would not only kill rats but anything else that happens to try eating it!

I'm no expert but I'm pretty sure rat poison is put into containers that are specifically designed to attract rats and safeguard other animals.
