Also in the News

Postby Warsop Person » Mon Sep 03, 2012 8:52 pm

I thought I would start this topic, an alternative to "News As It Happens!" for news stories that are not happening now or for links to other news sources that may be of interest to local people.

I will start by posting this link from Notts Police, the pilot of Claire's law has started in Nottinghamshire in an effort to reduce domestic violence.

Adrian, if you have any news that relates to Warsop, you can post it in here. Please don't post it in News as it Happens unless it's something happening right now. Articles in the Chad, or any media, don't count as news as it happens.

I did not realise this shop had opened, or that there was a grant scheme available for new traders in Warsop

I know this article is not directly related to warsop in that the schools are proposed for other areas of the county but not knowing the legalities of these free schools and academies it could potentially impact Meden if funding was pushed around between them all.

I think the article is directly related to Warsop as Meden is now a 'Torch Acadamy'. I personally think it's a bad idea when you consider what a mess privatising other services has caused. It will have a knock on effect to publicly funded schools as well because the joint services will have to be reduced. Already Oakdale Learning Centre, where excluded and special needs pupils are transferred to, has a reduced roll because Meden is keeping their problem pupils in school. That will impact on other schools if the learning centres have to close and I can't imagine how Meden will cope with problem pupils, unless they plan to employ specialist staff at great cost.

A pic of the Air Ambulance on the Carrs following the collision between the pedestrian and car near the Gate this morning.

I was at a watercolour workshop at Woodside Hall, Church Warsop today and the helicopter few directly over. We saw it land and wondered what it was but didn't think it was an air ambulance - I thought they were yellow.

I hope the pedestrian is OK.

I saw the helicopter turn but assumed it was a police one

Then I heard on the travel news on the radio that there were still delays on the A60 at Warsop due to an incident at the Ridgeway Road junction that was at 1.00am.

I think it was around 11 am that we saw the helicopter.

They might have meant there was an accident at the junction of Clumber Street with the A60, the junction at the side of St Teresa's Church. I don't think there's a Ridgeway 'Road' in Warsop but there's a Terrace and a Lane. Ridgeway Terrace starts at the top of the hill on Clumber Street and goes onto Ridgeway Lane, which goes down to Oakfield Lane.
