It won't be anything interesting, the decision to cancel was agreed without argument between MDC and the Carnival Committee so I can't see what "revelation" could possibly be of any interest moaner.

I'm with WP on this, it's nothing sinister. I was actually down on The Carrs when the decision was made and it was the right one because the grounds were like a swamp.

According to the Chad, the Carnival was cancelled at the last minute because the committee did not have a licence!
So what really happened??
Was it cancelled because of the bad weather, or because no licence was held, or a combination of both of these??

Whatever the CHAD says, it was definitely cancelled because of the weather. There was absolutely no way anything could have been put on the grounds as it was really boggy. The Carrs had been inspected on Thursday and although soggy, it was drying out and another inspection was arranged for 3pm Friday. We had persistant rain on Friday, so the committee knew what the decision would be from the inspection. I was there when MDC came and I reported it on here straight away.

That isn't to say licensing hasn't been an issue, it's been a pain in the bum due to new laws and MDC red tape that also apply to the Christmas Market and any event we organise. We've discussed this earlier and we'll no doubt discuss it again. Organising any event in Warsop is becoming almost impossible!!!

In actual fact the carnival doesn't need a license (the bar does and that had one). It does need an event management plan and it is that that has been the biggest headache as MDC kept moving the goal posts. Had the weather been fine some of the committee are of the opinion that we still wouldn't have had it because MDC would have invented another reason not to sign off the plan.

Well it finally happened, the carnival was cancelled, some people at MDC must be jumping up and down and clapping their hands in the air.
They have tried for many years to stop it, but due to tenacity and doggedness of the carnival committee they overcame every obstacle thrown at them which was no mean feat.
But, unfortunately, this year, the power's that be had the the greater force of divine intervention on their side and nobody could overcome this however much they tried.

But a big thank you to the carnival committee for everything they have done, you could not have done any more.

NOTE;
This is solely my own opinion and thought

The Event Management Plan for the Christmas Market was the last thing to be finalised by MDC and I was still amending it three days before the event because the goal posts kept changing, even down to the last minute decision to close Clumber Street. What really annoyed me was that the EMP we used the previous year had been approved, yet it was now deemed inadequate!!

Whether the EMP for the carnival was adequate or not, there was no way it could go ahead with the state of The Carrs due to the weather.

The committee have certainly done a brilliant job as always. I wasn't on it this year but have been other years so I know just how much hard work goes into planning these events, not least the paperwork and legal stuff. Every year it gets harder and every year the committee gets smaller!
