Simply name what is discribed.

I carry an army and measure the world. I can sometimes be found in a mouth.

Good answer Wizard!! Better than mine. I was thinking of stomach - an army marches on its stomach, your stomach is sometimes said to be in your mouth, but I can't think how it would measure the world.

Here's another one:

Wizard, your guess is not a million miles from mine. Oh wait, it is actually, a few million miles because I thought it could be the sun. Though what that has to do with hats I don't know.

Close enough Wizard 8-)
The answer is mercury - mercury is used in thermometers, Mercury is the closest planet to the sun (Egyptian sun deity is Ra), mercury salts were used by hat makers after it was discovered that it aided with stiffening the fabric and the resultant CNS damage brought about that well known phrase.

I got the mad hatters clue straight away, giving me the answer of mercury.
I just added the barometer bit for "measuring the climate".

Well done once again Wiz! Clever you!

I got the sun god Ra clue but didn't know about mercury being used in hat making. I wondered where the saying mad as a hatter came from and now I know. That's another wrinkle in me bum!
