No Adrian! You sent me a pm asking if your answer to part of the clue was correct! It was but then you veered off course!

You're all thinking along the right lines and have given some very good answers, but you're all in different parts of the world.

Here's the clue again........

There may be arrows pointing around the body of water to this place, which is not as close as it sounds. To the east it sounds like you'll find a heap of bears but there's illness there, though it's more harmonious further South.

No Adrian, sorry that's not right either, but you're back on the right route again!

Maybe it's time to start sharing your thoughts with each other.

Rumbly managed to work out which bits were the clues and gave a very good answer but it wasn't the one I wanted.

Do you want another clue?

There may be arrows (shot from bows) pointing around the body of water to this place, which is not as close as it sounds. To the east it sounds like you'll find a heap of bears but there's illness there, though it's more harmonious further South.

The place I'm looking for sounds like it's local!

Rumbly Tumbly has the correct answer and is spot on with all but one of the clues.

I'll give the rest of you a few more hours before giving the answer and then it's Rumbly's turn to set the puzzle.

Adrian, one of the places you mention is an answer to one of my clues. Carnival, are you having a go at this?

Rumbly - there is a Spion Kop in South Africa, where the battle took place and gave our Kop it's name. That's nothing to do with my puzzle though.

Adrian has the correct answer, though I'm not sure he got it from all of the clues.

Well done Adrian!

You said I had got Singapore right Caz so i simply searched over that area and there it was, your clue that it was local helped me solve it.
