Hello everyone from bonny Scotland

Postby boogie » Fri May 14, 2010 11:51 pm

:) Just introducing myself,

My name is John.

A really great site with tons of information, We should have something like this where I live up here in Rosyth in Fife.

I am looking into my family history and all the evidence I have leads me directly to your area.

I was wondering if any of the members may recall a Mr Joseph West who passed away 1st October 1979 he was married to Kathleen Burton.

Kathleen had 3 sons from a previous maraige.

Last known address Glanis Square, Church Warsop.

I am more than happy for anyone who may be able to help to contact me.

John

Hi boogie - welcome to the forum and thanks for the compliment. You live in a beautiful area of the British Isles, we go up to Scotland every Easter and we love it. Loch Long this year, a little lower down than we usually go, but just as nice as the Cairngorm area.

I'm sorry, I'm not familiar with the name of the person you're looking for information on, but I'm sure someone on here will be able to help, they're a pretty knowledgeable lot with local history.

Hi Caz

Thanx for the nice welcome

Yes it is quite nice here, we live right under the shadow of the Forth Bridges.

I love it over on Loch Long side of the country, I was based at the Naval base not far from there at Faslane.
Did you know that Loch Long is a very deep Loch and was used as a torpedo firing range for the American and British submarines. Alas no more Americans there now with the closure of their base at Holy Loch.

The Cobbler overlooks Loch long, an impressive sight if there is no cloud, supposed to look like a cobbler sitting at the anvil mending shoes. You can decide that for yourself when you see it.

Well I am sure there must be one of your members who will remember MR West or one of his step sons who I believe are still in the area. He was on the commitee of the Church Warsop Memorial Club. I do have more information which I will gladly share with anyone who may remember him.

Boogie, when we were there at Easter, in a property on the shore of Loch Long at Blairmore, we were all sat having breakfast one morning and two submarines emerged!

Slow down and enjoy life. It's not only the scenery you miss by going too fast - you also miss the sense of where you are going and why.
