Hi everyone, I found the "Warsop web" whilst attempting to look up my long lost relative Gordon Bolton. My grandfather Willoughby Stubbins was born in the Warsop area in 1898.
Willoughby Stubbins married May Crossland in 1920 and they had 3 children :
Willoughby Stubbins (Junior), then came Rose and finally my mother Beryl Stubbins.
Family history oral history has it that Gordon Stubbins who was born in December 1925 in Rossington near Doncaster was actually the child of Elsie Bolton (nee Crossland). Gordon's real name was apparently Gordon BOLTON but he was raised as the brother of Willoughby, Rose and Beryl because his mother (Elsie Bolton) died in a fire when he was a small child.
Grandad Willoughby Stubbins was born in a place called Shirebrook, the family moved to the Warsop area. Willoughby Stubbins actually appears on the 1901 census (he was 2 years old then) with his surname misspelled as StubbinGs (there should have been no G in the surname). If anyone knows any of my relatives I would be grateful for any information. Being in Australia sometimes it is difficult to follow up on information. I was in Yorkshire in August (2009) and did quite a bit of work with the assistance of the very helpful staff in Bailey House in Rotherham.
Hope you all have a great christmas. Kind regards from Houghtonjd
