I did it My Way

Postby Westmorland » Wed Apr 22, 2015 1:54 pm

As I hit 50 this Spring I feel I can sum up the past 50 years as follows

To my enemies, your dislike tempered my desire to overcome any obstacles you have thrown at me and helped me conquer my demons. My name has been dragged through the mud more than once but each time I just pick it up, wash it off and continue stronger and with more determination than before.

I've traveled each and every highway;
And more, much more than this,
I did it my way.

Regrets, I've had a few;
But then again, too few to mention.
I did what I had to do
And saw it through without exemption.

I planned each charted course;
Each careful step along the byway,
And more, much more than this,
I did it my way.

Yes, there were times, I'm sure you knew
When I bit off more than I could chew.
But through it all, when there was doubt,
I ate it up and spit it out.
I faced it all and I stood tall;
And did it my way.

I've loved, I've laughed and cried.
I've had my fill; my share of losing.
And now, as tears subside,
I find it all so amusing.

To think I did all that;
And may I say - not in a shy way,
"Oh no, oh no not me,
I did it my way".

For what is a man, what has he got?
If not himself, then he has naught.
To say the things he truly feels;
And not the words of one who kneels.
The record shows I took the blows -
And did it my way!

:) Congratulation on becoming the big 50! ;)

I had a milestone birthday earlier in the year too and you've made me think how my outlook on life has changed over the years. I suppose my song could be 'I am what I am'. What you see is what you get, so take me or leave me. I don't aim to make people like me and I don't have anything to prove. I do things I believe in and if people don't like me or the things I do, that's fine but I don't see anyone as an enemy.

I don't dwell on regrets either, I look back at things that could have been better and put them down to experience, so I now consider myself quite experienced in life. :D
